A new box office milestone has been set by Michael, the biographical drama about Michael Jackson. Updated industry figures show the film has now earned roughly $1.001 billion worldwide.
The total includes about $371.8 million from North America and $629.8 million from international markets. Its performance places the movie among the year’s biggest theatrical releases and gives Lionsgate its highest-grossing film to date.
Michael has also overtaken several major biographical titles. Its worldwide earnings now exceed those of Oppenheimer, while its music-focused box office total has moved beyond Bohemian Rhapsody.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film stars Jaafar Jackson as his uncle. The story traces Jackson’s childhood, his rise with the Jackson 5 and his later career as a solo artist.
The film arrived in theaters in April 2026 and drew strong interest across multiple international markets. Reviews from critics were mixed, but ticket sales remained steady enough to carry the movie past the billion-dollar mark.
