Philadelphia will mark Independence Day with a major free concert on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, bringing together music, comedy, and fireworks for a large public celebration.
City officials announced that Christina Aguilera, Will Smith, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Jill Scott, The Roots, Seal, State Property, Kathy Sledge, Infinity Song, and other performers are part of the lineup for One Philly: Unity Concert for America. Wanda Sykes is set to host the event, which is planned as part of the lead-up to America’s 250th anniversary.
Organizers said the concert is meant to highlight Philadelphia’s role in American history while giving residents and visitors a shared celebration in the heart of the city. The show will take place near the Philadelphia Museum of Art, one of the city’s most recognizable gathering spots.
The evening is scheduled to close with fireworks over the Parkway. Admission is free, and the event is expected to draw a large crowd for one of Philadelphia’s biggest holiday traditions.
